Accessing outreach activities
Universities and sometimes FE colleges with HE provision will have a programme of outreach activities available for learners to find out more about higher education in general and their institution. This will involve opportunities for learners to go and visit the HEI but also staff and current students from the institution are often happy to come and visit schools and colleges talk to learners. The departments that usually have these responsibilities are often know as: Widening participation and access teams, education liaison teams or student recruitment teams.
Sessions can be themed around subject offerings, UCAS a particular age group or even for a particular group of learners (e.g.: Care leavers or learners with disabilities).
We would encourage you to contact your local HEIs to see what support they can offer your learners. Have a look at the HE in London website where you can access key contact information for over 40 university and college outreach teams in London
